Early autumn, which felt not so different from summer, has passed, and now only one month remains before the season ends. With just two months left in the year, looking back on the past ten months reveals an eventful journey.
This year, more than any other, I tried many new things. Yet, in some ways, it feels as if it might have been a truly difficult year had I not taken those steps. There were moments when emotions overflowed, leading to regrets, but I feel a sense of accomplishment for having made it through. Now, it's time to prepare to wrap up this year and set plans for the next.
Life, by its very nature, is unpredictable, and plans rarely unfold as intended. Yet, making plans feels like a way of preparing for life's uncertainties. Each day spent working toward those goals was a source of strength that sustained me. This year, too, I realized how much of a foundation family can be. Of course, some of my deepest wounds came from family, but when I look at my children as they sleep peacefully or smile up at me, it feels as if they explain my very purpose for being here.
With two months of 2024 still remaining, let’s take time to reflect and, if there's something we haven't yet accomplished, let's commit to honoring those promises to ourselves. And let’s look forward to a better year ahead.
A favorite artist of mine once said:
The purpose for which we were born was fulfilled the moment we arrived in this world. The life that follows is a kind of bonus game. Shed the burdens and enjoy this bonus game.
If we suffer through life's painful moments, life becomes a tragedy. But if we see those moments as challenges, our lives become a sport. Overcoming and winning is important, but even if we lose, if we can enjoy the experience, then that life has true value.
